You might be familiar with her face thanks to the show Shark Tank on Network Ten. Naomi Simson is a highly successful entrepreneur. She inspires men and women across the country to follow their dreams when it comes to starting a business.
In 2001 Naomi Simson invested $25,000 to begin an online experience gift company called RedBalloon which she ran out of her house. Today she is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the country, has released several books and appears on the popular Network Ten program Shark Tank.
She won the 2008 national Telstra Business Womens Awards for Innovation. Her company RedBalloon was voted as one of Australia’s Best Places to Work by BRW 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. She has also been selected as a LinkedIn Influencer(now with more than 750,000 subscribers).
In 2015, Deborah Hutton sat down with Naomi to talk about how she lives what she loves and how we can do it too.
#1 Live what you love
In this interview, Naomi talks about how a request to write a blog led to her churning out 30,000 words on the topic of ‘advice to my younger self’…which inevitably led to the creation of her bestselling new book Live What You Love.

#2 Do you want to be an entrepreneur or self-employed?
Naomi Simson tells Deborah in this interview that there’s a big difference between being self-employed and being an entrepreneur. She says that many contestants on Shark Tank are better off staying self-employed rather than trying to build an empire.
“An entrepreneur has a clear vision for how they want to improve the world and they want to solve a problem. And that problem will fester and fester until they solve it. And as a result of that, they are growing an enterprise around them. Often that will mean they’ll take on investors…and that will mean they will not be truly working for themselves,” Naomi said.

#3 Passion, persistence, positivity and purpose
Do you know someone who is truly passionate about something but doesn’t have the persistence to follow through with an idea or business plan? Entrepreneur Naomi Simson says true success is not about taking the first step… but having the stamina to take “the 500,000th step”.
In this interview, Naomi explains how her ‘I’ll show them’ attitude helped pull her through difficult times – not only with her business but also in her personal life. She says that throughout the years many people have tried to deflate her balloon but that has just made her more determined to succeed.

#4 50 empowering words
Do you ever find yourself saying ‘I can’t do that’ or ‘I’m not good at this’? What would happen if you changed the language you use when it comes to your business dealings or personal relationships? Would you attract more positive experiences?
Naomi Simson explains the language she once used and how it limited the things she was able to achieve…from something as simple as parking her car on the side of the road.

#5 In the juggling act of life, find out the one ball you shouldn’t drop!
We all seem to be juggling a hell of a lot these days. When it comes to our work-life balance, what’s the one ball that we shouldn’t drop? Is it our relationships? Our hopes and dreams? Maybe our commitment to fitness and health?
In this interview, Naomi Simson gives us a wise answer to the question of what we should be prioritising in our lives and warns us not to “rush to the urgent at the expense of the important”.
