We would like to share with you this interview by Deborah Hutton with the amazing Emma Isaacs from 2013. Especially because it is still one of our favourite interviews. You will know Emma as the Founder and Global CEO of Business Chicks. She is one of the most inspiring entrepreneurs and business owners we have had the pleasure of featuring on Balance Boardroom. At the time of this interview, Emma was expecting her third child and “Business Chicks” had 25,800 members.
Today Emma has five children and has moved to LA to expand the business globally. Business Chicks Australia has Olivia Ruello at the helm and produces over 100 events annually; publishes a magazine called Latte and facilitates thousands of new connections every week for its members and 250K+ social media following through its engaging content.
#1 Early days of Business Chicks
Emma and Deborah talk about the beginning of Business Chicks. When Emma first purchased the business only had 250 members. Emma talks about how the Business Chick events aim to inspire women and create positive change in the world.
#2 The best business advice Emma has been given
Emma shares with us that the best business advice she received was to ” make yourself redundant as quickly as possible”. Emma explains to Deborah how implementing this advice has created a positive work culture at Business Chicks.
#3 Can women have it all? No, neither can men!

Emma says it’s impossible to have it all. “We can’t have it all and neither can men,” Emma says. Emma Isaacs is the founder and Global CEO of Business Chicks, Australia’s largest community for women. She is passionate about encouraging women to be bold, to be courageous and to take risks.
Emma can take something good and turn it into something spectacular with no experience required. After seven years of running her own recruitment business which she acquired at just 18 years old. Emma was invited to a small event run by a group called Business Chicks. After hearing the business was for sale, Emma took a leap of faith and bought it. And over the next decade, Emma grew the small Business Chicks group of 250 members into a community of thousands of engaged women.
Business Chicks produces over 100 events annually; publishes a magazine called Latte and facilitates thousands of new connections every week for its members and 250K+ social media following through its engaging content. In 2016, Emma packed up her young family to move to California where she launched the USA arm of Business Chicks.
Emma has spent time with some of the world’s greatest thought leaders including Sir Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Sir Bob Geldof and Arianna Huffington. She is a highly sought after keynote speaker and media commentator on topics around female leadership and entrepreneurship and has been featured in BRW, Cosmopolitan, Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian Financial Review, Marie Claire, on Sunrise, Sky Business News and The Today Show.
